The strip test, as shown here, is more traumatic to the vessel, but clearly indicates patency. The venous anastomosis is carried out in a similar fashion with two variations. Because the vein wall is so thin and insubstantial, the field must be flooded with saline to float the vein walls. To test a venous anastomosis, a strip test on the proximal side must be used.
