Dry gauze can be pushed into the abdomen and withdrawn. The omentum often clings to the gauze and it is a nice way to lead you to the colon and subsequently the stomach.

The stomach is drawn into the wound. Care must be taken to avoid tearing the stomach as it is drawn out. Moist gauze is a safer grasper than an instrument. The pylorus should never be grasped with instruments or gauze as this will almost certainly lead to tearing.
