Using cautery, the mucosa is separated from the submucosa. As it is lifted up, 4-0 silk sutures are placed through the mucosal edge to distribute tension.

The entire submucosal plane has been developed and all sutures are in place. The mucosa is then stripped away from the muscle with fine needle cautery and cotton-tipped applicators.
