A digital rectal exam is done to make sure an adequate enema prep had been done. Any remaining material is washed out with dilute betadine via a red rubber catheter. The digital exam also allows some dilatation of the anus.

A circumferential prep is done. This allows the child to be rotated and manipulated with ease. A Foley catheter is placed.
