The completed neoanus.

After final inspection of the abdomen, the old stoma is excised and the defect closed in layers. The skin is closed with absorbable subcuticular or interrupted nylon sutures, with a less than 10% chance of wound infection. The interrupted sutures allow only partial reopening of the wound if necessary.
