The right colon was mobilized by opening the peritoneal reflection (white line of Toldt) and sweeping retroperitoneal tissue and ureter off the recreated right colon mesentery with a moist sponge stick (see total colectomy and J-pouch , ulcerative colitis , and total colectomy and J-pouch for ulcerative colitis (video) ).

The second portion of the duodenum and right kidney (within Gerota’s fascia, see renal anatomy ) were visualized with the right colon reflected to the patient’s left.
