The following mediastinal anatomy is based on 3-D reconstruction of the visible human data set. The anterior view shows the aortic arch, great vessels of the upper body and coronary arteries (see coronary artery anatomy and coronary artery variation). Note the right, left and posterior disposition of the aortic valve cusps.
The relationship of pulmonary artery to aorta is shown (see tracheobronchial relationships). The pulmonary valve is anterior and superior to the aortic valve, and its cusps are right, left and anterior. Note the almost horizontal disposition of the pulmonary trunk from anterior to posterior.
