The standard steps confirmed peritoneal placement of the needle: aspiration clear of blood, air or stool; injection of 10cc of saline and minimal return on aspiration.

Gas insufflation was started. The caliber of the Veress needle limits the flow to 2L per minute, regardless of the flow setting. Maximum patient pressure was set at 15mm Hg.
