The needle is cut off, the loop is held with the ring finger of the left hand, and the knot is tied flat and square (see one- and two-handed knots.) The ring finger is rotated with each throw to tighten each limb equally.

The knot is pulled up to skin level and the ends are cut flush with the knot. The knot retracts to the subcutaneous position.
