A 53-year-old woman presented with a several month history of increasing mass in the right thigh associated with discomfort and weakness. She had had a lipoma excised from the same location four years previously, and the scar is seen over the swelling. The mass flattened with quadriceps contraction. The previous operative and pathology reports were not available.
at saturated fast spin echo T-1 and T-2 weighted MRI images with and without gadolinium administration showed a 9 x 3 x 5.5 cm mass within the vastus lateralis. The mass demonstrated fat signal with high signal on T-1 weighted image and complete fat suppression following fat suppressive technique. The sagittal images are shown.

Septae demonstrating intermediate signal were seen traversing the mass, however, there was no nodular enhancement or thick septae to suggest a liposarcoma. Axial cuts are shown here. The rest of the pre-operative workup, including chest X-ray, was negative for possible metastases.
