A 69-year-old woman noted a lesion on her leg after trauma. One year later she had the lesion examined by a dermatologist who found the variegated 2.8 cm lesion with irregular margins seen here (after incisional biopsy). There was no inguinal adenopathy. Incisional biopsy showed an invasive malignant melanoma with a depth of 0.45mm. The patient was scheduled for wide excision.

For this thin (< 0.75 mm) lesion, a margin of 2 cm was chosen.
