The proximal end was aligned with the side of the distal end along the free taenia and stay sutures of 3-0 GI silk were placed at the corners. This is an alternative to the end-to-end anastomosis, and is particularly useful when there is a size discrepancy between the two ends.

A two-layer anastomosis was chosen, and a back wall outer layer of interrupted 3-0 silk seromuscular sutures was placed. The alternative is a single layer anastomosis incorporating all layers with a continuous 3-0 absorbable monofilament.
