Grade III Splenic Trauma: Non-Operative: 7

The significant collection of blood in the pelvis would have made a clear positive FAST exam. The patient remained stable and was managed non-operatively (see also grade II splenic injury: non-operative and splenectomy for grade IV injury.) The indications for non-operative management are expanding, and are supplemented with selective embolization of segmental vessels that show evidence of continued bleeding.
