A second vessel loop was double looped around the subclavian for proximal control. Heparin, 4,500U, was given and after 5 minutes, the subclavian vessel loops were tightened proximally and distally.

A tangential stab was made with a #11 blade at the lateral end of the intended arteriotomy, keeping the bevel up and the angle shallow to avoid injuring the back wall of the vessel.
