The proximal jejunum was divided with a linear stapler, and the jejunum was brought through an opening in the transverse mesocolon to the left of the middle colic artery. The closed fourth portion of the duodenum is seen below the loop.

The two limbs of the loop were stapled together with a 100 mm linear stapler, forming a Hunt-Lawrence pouch.
