The thymus straddles the heart anteriorly (pericardium omitted for illustration purposes) and involutes in the adult. The blood supply to the thymus comes from the internal mammary (internal thoracic) arteries and the veins drain to internal mammary and brachiocephalic with communications to the inferior thyroid veins.
