The Foley catheter was clamped after 200cc of sterile saline was instilled to distend the bladder (the patient was anuric). The muscular layer of bladder was opened a distance of 1cm on the dome to expose the submucosa. The mucosa was opened.

The end of the ureter was oriented to avoid torsion and the end was spatulated.

The ureter was anastomosed mucosa to mucosa using continuous absorbable 5-0 monifilament suture. The muscular layer of bladder was closed over the end of the ureter creating a tunnel.
