The endoscopic linear cutter (4.8mm cartridge) is fired toward the lesser curve below the anvil. The second firing is directed from the end of the first reinforced staple line toward the cardia just lateral to the angle of His. A staple-line reinforcement material is used on the stapler during division of the stomach to protect against bleeding and leakage.

The gastro-colic omentum is opened along the greater curve of the stomach, entering the lesser sac and exposing the transverse mesocolon beneath.
