The long linear reflection of the splenic visceral peritoneum onto the underlying renal fascia is called the splenorenal ligament. The continuation of this reflection beyond the upper pole of the spleen toward the esophagogastric junction attaches to the diaphragm and is called the splenophrenic ligament. It is the last connection divided during laparoscopic splenectomy.

From a caudal perspective, the far posterior position of the spleen in the paravertebral gutter can be seen. The tail of the pancreas and splenic vessels cross the poster wall of the body of the stomach and lie across the upper portion of the left kidney.
