A 43-year-old man presented with a history of recurrent diverticulitis (see sigmoid diverticulitis). He had 6 episodes over an 11-year period, three requiring hospitalization. None were complicated. After resolution of his most recent episode he was taken to the operating room for laparoscopic sigmoid resection (see laparoscopic sigmoid resection for diverticulitis). He was placed in modified lithotomy position.
