A small curved clamp was insinuated circumferentially between the plaque and the wall of the external carotid.

The mobilized atheroma in the external carotid was grasped and slowly pulled (eversion endarterectomy) to allow it to break off cleanly as far distally as possible. The orifice of the vessel was probed with a small clamp to remove any remaining plaque.
