A diverticulum that occurs below the cricopharyngeus (inferior pharyngeal constrictor) has the eponym Killian-Jamieson (* see References). It is most commonly on the lateral wall of the esophagus and is a true, pulsion diverticulum The area of the esophageal wall below the cricopharyngeus is termed Killian's space and is close to the point where the recurrent laryngeal nerve penetrates the pharyngeal musculature. This is distinguished from Killian's raphe/dehiscence between the middle and inferior pharyngeal constrictors where a Zenker's diverticulum occurs (see Zenker's Diverticulum.)
