Tension on the gallbladder is eased to avoid tenting up and injuring the common duct with the first clip. The clip is placed in a comfortable position, anticipating the positions of the next two clips. Note that the tip of the lower blade of the clip applier is clearly visible behind the duct before the clip is applied. Rotating the clip applier one way or the other may facilitate visualization.

Once the two proximal clips are placed adjacent to each other, the final clip is slid up to the infundibular junction and applied.
