The fixed lower blade of the hook scissors is placed beneath the cystic duct so that the tip is visible, and the cystic duct is divided.

The cystic duct is shown divided. Note the fine remaining strand still to be cut. It is better to cut too little and clean up the remainder under direct vision than to cut too much blindly.

Once the cystic duct is divided, the grasper on the infundibulum is replaced directly above the clip on the gallbladder end of the cystic duct for more optimal retraction.
