After reforming the anterior chamber and adjusting the intraocular tension with saline, the wound is checked for leaks with a cellulose sponge or a topical fluorescein strip. Note the microleak inferiorly, demonstrated by Seidel testing. Leaks should be repaired by replacing inadequate sutures or placing additional interrupted nylon sutures.

Wound leak repaired by replacing one loose interrupted 10-0 nylon with an appropriate suture, resulting in a watertight wound. The Flieringa ring is removed.

At the conclusion of the case, a 12-hour collagen shield soaked in cefazolin and celestone is placed over the cornea, which is then covered by a pressure patch and shield dressing overnight.
