The abdomen was opened through a chevron incision. Multiple adhesions from prior abdominal surgery were lysed to expose the upper abdominal organs.

A 3-mm serosal lesion on the stomach was excised and proved to be metastatic adenocarcinoma. There were no other lesions found on exploration of the abdomen.

The gastrocolic omentum was opened along the mid greater curvature of the stomach to enter the lesser sac (see total colectomy .)
