The patient was given 90 U/Kg of heparin and 12.5g of mannitol intravenously prior to cross-clamping the aorta. Half the initial dose was repeated every 45 min. Two vascular clamps were placed between the left renal vein and the inferior mesenteric artery, and the aorta was transected between the clamps. This allowed retrograde filling to the pelvis, left colon and lower pole of the right kidney while the proximal anastomosis was being done.

The proximal anastomosis was performed using 3-0 monofilament polypropylene. The back wall was sutured in parachute fashion from 4:00-7:00 and then drawn into place to ensure there would be no flutes in the graft material posteriorly.
