The latissimus dorsi muscles are shown from the posterior view. This is a robust muscle and is the workhorse musculocutaneous flap used to cover large defects.

The vascular pedicle of the latissumus dorsi is based on the subscapular branches of the axillary vessels which continue as the thoracodorsal vessels after giving off a serratus branch.
