Two of the crural arteries, the posterior tibial and peroneal, lie just behind the deep crural muscles. The anterior tibial passes through the interosseus membrane to reach the anterior compartment.

The superficial posterior crural muscles, the soleus, popliteus and gastrocnemius, cover the posterior crural vessels.
