The inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) distribution to the rectosigmoid region is shown. The IMA artery gives rise to the left colic artery, sigmoidal branches and superior rectal branches. The latter two groups must be divided to remove the rectosigmoid area around this patient's tumor.
