The palmar fascia lies just beneath the skin and is densely adherent to it. Separation results in thin skin flaps which are at risk for devascularization and slough. Patients are appropriately counseled and advised of the possible need for a skin graft.

The neurovascular bundles to the radial and ulnar sides of the fifth digit were identified at the level of the metacarpophalangeal joint.
