The completed selective shunt and venous disconnection of the splenic circuit from its portal connection are shown. The coronary and right gastric veins are also interrupted. The esophageal veins now drain via the short gastrics and splenic vein into the low pressure systemic circulation, while the portal perfusion pressure to the liver is left undisturbed, minimizing the chance of hepatic encephalopathy.
