These had a long stem to fit into the metacarpal shaft and a concave base to articulate with the scaphoid joint surface.

These resulted in extensive "silastic synovitis", degenerative changes and silastic encystation within both carpal rows, and osteolysis in the metacarpal shaft. There was also a problem with dislocation.
