An 86-year-old man developed infection of a left hip prosthesis that had been placed five years previously.

The patient had the prosthesis removed and antibiotic impregnated spacers were placed in the acetabulum and femoral shaft.

After six weeks, the patient was returned to the operating room for secondary total hip replacement. The wires around the proximal femoral shaft are visible.
