The iliac arteries are frequently encased in the inflammation as well (arrow). It is often prudent to obtain control via balloon catheters rather than attempt dissection and risk injury to adjacent veins.

The extent of aortic calcification is important to plan position of the proximal aortic clamp. Here the supraceliac aorta (arrow) is relatively disease free.
