A large left lumbar vein is shown with the vena cava retracted to the right. If retrocaval access is difficult, the lumbar veins are ligated and divided. In this thin individual, it was not necessary to do so.

The retrocaval node dissection is shown. The single large left lumbar vein rather than multiple branches, facilitated the dissection.
