The dissection is completed by stripping the carotid sheath from the anterior surfaces of the internal jugular vein (dividing the common facial vein) and carotid artery and completing the dissection anteriorly to the edge of the strap muscles. Since all three structures are preserved, this would be termed a functional neck dissection.
