A female neonate, product of a normal 39-week gestation, presented with excess salivation and tachypnea. X-ray shows air in the bowel, right upper lobe atelectasis, and a feeding tube curled in the upper esophagus.
A lateral X-ray shows the distal extent of the coiled tube at the sternomanubrial junction. A diagnosis of esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula (based on the presence of air in the bowel) was made.
