CT scan showed the nail clear of trachea and esophagus, so no endoscopy or swallowing study was done. The tip of the nail lies next to the head of the second rib on the right.

The position of the nail is shown in a superior perspective of the superior thoracic aperture. The tip of the nail is adjacent to the cap of endothoracic (Sibson's) fascia over the cupola of the lung.
