After inking the specimen for margins, the specimen was cut transversely, revealing it to be well encapsulated. The hemorrhagic area marks the biopsy site. The pathology was myxoid liposarcoma with clear margins (.5cm deep margin was the closest).
A test stitch showed that the skin edges could be approximated primarily without skin graft. The stitch was left in place temporarily to relieve tension during closure.

A closed suction drain was placed and brought out through a stab wound in line with and close to the incision, so that the drain tract could be easily incorporated if reexcision were necessary.
