The hamstring muscles consist of the biceps femoris laterally and the semimembranosus and semitendinosus medially. The latter two muscles and the long head of the biceps originate from the ischial tuberosity. The short head of the biceps originates from the lower third of the lateral lip of the linea aspera of the femur.
