Seromuscular sutures were placed along the extraluminal part of the tube. (In this case, "seromuscular" is a misnomer, because the submucosa is the strong, collagen-containing layer and must be included in the bite. Evidence of an adequate submocosal bite is blanching of the submucosal vessels on elevating the needle.)

The sutures were tied, burying a portion of the feeding tube (Witzel jejunostomy) to prevent leakage.
