The coronal section MRI slice shows the upward displacement of the right kidney and renal vein. The mass was heterogeneous without significant enhancement. There was no evidence of renal or vascular enhancement. CT guided biopsy showed a liposarcoma with spindle cells and rare mitoses. The patient underwent neo-adjuvant X-ray therapy (5,000 rad).

Five weeks after completion of radiation, the patient was taken to the operating room for resection. The chevron incision is outlined.

The rectus muscles were isolated and divided over army-navy retractors, with lap pads under the ends to protect against cautery arcing to the skin.
