The craniectomy was extended into the foramen magnum inferiorly to expose the surface of the tumor on the inferior portion of the left cerebellar hemisphere.

The cerebellar arterial supply is shown (see brain circulation). The posterior inferior cerebellar artery off the vertebral artery provided a rich blood supply to the tumor. The proximity of the vertebral artery also posed a risk in the dissection.

An ultrasonic dissector was used to remove the lesion. The vascularity of the lesion made dissection difficult.
