The dural sutures secure the dura to the skull to decrease the chance of postoperative epidural dissection of blood.

The dura was opened around three sides of the bony opening and reflected. The AVM, with its feeding artery at 12:00 (toward the front of the brain) and the venous drainage at 6:00 (toward the posterior part of the sagittal sinus) can be seen.
