By isolating only the M2 segment, antegrade flow was maintained to the superior division supplying the patient's right sensory and motor cortex (the patient was left-hand dominant).

Adventitia was stripped from the recipient vessel and a linear arteriotomy was made using a micro-knife and micro-Potts scissors.
