The beginning of the Robicsek weave is shown schematically. The first bite is down through the manubrium, then back up through manubrium. The next bite is down through the second interspace.
The weave is continued through the full length of the sternal intercostal spaces, hugging the lateral border of the sternum to avoid injury to the internal mammary artery.

The weave is reversed at the lowest sternal intercostal space and carried back up to the sternum. The last stitch goes up through the sternum close to the first bite.
