After removal of the proximal staple line, The colon end was checked for the presence of adjacent diverticula, and an over and over purse string of 2-0 monofilament was created in the proximal colon.

Sizers were used to determine the appropriate diameter of the end to end stapler. A 28 mm size was selected.
