The retrograde transducing line of the retrograde cardioplegia cannula was connected. The cannula has three lumens: cardioplegia, retrograde transducing, and the balloon for occluding the coronary sinus with pressure measurement to limit pressure to less than 30 mm Hg in order to not rupture the coronary sinus when inflating the balloon.

The antegrade cardioplegia line was back-bled to de-air prior to cross clamping the aorta.

Cardioplegia was administered antegrade first followed by retrograde, and pump perfusion was begun. There are many protocols for cardioplegia.
