The right-hand instrument is released and the loop brought over the center of the knot. It is important to put no tension on the strand so that the set of the previous throw is not disturbed and the throw loosened.

The right-hand instrument is now placed on the far side of the C-loop. It is important to be consistent with the side of the loop used for wrapping. Using the same side repeatedly creates square knots which are neat and secure. Varying the wrapping side creates granny knots which are less secure.
